General & Peer-to-Peer Fundraiser Guide

One of the cornerstones of the Donately platform is our Campaigns & Fundraisers. Within that, we offer 3 types of these that can be used in a wide range of situations. This guide focuses on 2 of the 3 types: General Campaigns & Peer-to-Peer Fundraisers.

For instructions on "Embeddable Form-Only" campaigns, please see this article.

With that, the first step in building a Campaign is deciding which type of Campaign you'd like to create. For a full rundown on the different Campaign Types, please see this article.

Below are the steps for building a Campaign. Click on any step to go direction to that set of instructions.

Campaign Title

Across all three types, the only required field is the Campaign Title. While this can be edited in the future, do note that for General Campaigns & Peer-to-Peer Fundraisers, changing the title will change the URL. This means, if you share the URL via email, then change the title, the URL you originally shared will no longer work!

Campaign Status

For a full rundown on Campaign Statuses, please see this article.

Campaign Goal

For General Campaigns & Peer-to-Peer Fundraisers, a goal is required. Note, if you are on our Team or Enterprise plans, you do have the ability to hide the goal from the public pages, so that the visitors to the page do not see the goal. See the "Campaign Page Progress Stats" section below.

Campaign Type

With this, you have the option of turning on, or off, the ability for supporters to create their own peer-to-peer fundraising page.

Header Image

The header image is the large image in the middle of a Campaign page and Fundraising page. Our recommended size for header images is 1920px by 960px. As you can see, this is a large image. Adding an image to these specifications will allow the image to fill any size screen.

For advanced positioning of the header image, especially when being view on mobile devices, please see the "image position" section below.

Thumbnail Image

The Thumbnail Image is what will display in the directory of your active Campaigns on your Donately Home Page. We recommend this image is 316px by 178px.

Content Area

For a full breakdown of the Content Area, please see this article.

Design

Image Position

The image position selector is really helpful in picking the focus point of your header image on mobile devices. For a full breakdown, please see this article.

Note: The remaining parts of the Design step require a Starter, Team or Enterprise plan. If you're a Free user, click here to learn more about upgrading and get access to the extra customizations available!

Campaign Page Progress Stats

In this section, you can choose to turn off various stats associated with your Campaign & Fundraising pages. This includes the Goal Amount, the Supporter Count, and the Goal Bar. That means, even though Goal is required during the Content step, you can remove it from the page entirely if you'd rather that not be publicly available to view!

Note that for Campaigns with Peer-to-Peer Fundraising enabled, turning off these stats will also turn off the stats on the individual Fundraising pages.

Campaign Page Options

On any Campaign and Fundraising page, you'll have the ability to hide the main title (across the header image), and the bottom form (the "lead-in form".) Note, the bottom form is not your donation form, but rather another way for a donor to simply start their donation.

Fundraiser Page Options

Specific to Peer-to-Peer Fundraising pages, you have the ability to turn off the Recent Donations feed, along with the donor comments that come along with that.

Primary Color

The primary color is the main color that is shown across all of your Donately pages. This can be adjusted on the Account Settings page.

Form Settings

Choosing an Existing Form

On this page, you can choose a pre-built donation form to attach to your new Campaign. To do so, simply select the existing form from the list, and save your changes. From there, that specific form will show on that Campaign page.

Creating a New Form

If you would like to create a new form entirely, you'll first need to publish your Campaign then go build your new form. After that, simply come back to this editor and select the form from the dropdown.

Earmarking and Embedding

If you are intending to embed a donation form into your website that is earmarked to this Campaign, you will need to edit the form settings separately from the Forms page, then embed that into your site. This is a different process than attaching the form to your Campaign.

For more information on customizing a donation form, including adding earmarking, please see this article.

Share

Share the URL

All General and Peer-to-Peer Fundraisers have a public URL that can be shared. From this page, you can quickly view the page, or copy the URL to your clipboard. Once copied, you can share the page on social media, via email, or make a link from your website.

Embed Progress Bar

For our Starter, Team & Enterprise users, you are able to embed a progress bar on your website that represents the progress towards your Campaign goal! You are able to customize the colors, and which attributes are shown.

If you're a Free User and would like to embed a progress bar on your website, click here to upgrade!
