Set the giving frequencies your form offers

Which giving frequencies a donor sees, and which one is selected when the form loads, is set per form. Open the form and go to the Amounts section, then the Giving Frequencies card.

Choose the frequencies

The card lists the frequencies your form offers, in the order donors see them. Use the arrows to reorder, the X to remove one, and the dropdown at the bottom to add another.

The common options are one time, every 7 days, monthly, every 3 months and once a year. There are more available: daily, every 14 days, every 2 months, every 4 months and every 6 months.

Keep the list short. Every extra choice is a decision you are asking a donor to make before they give.

Set the default

The top frequency is the one preselected when the form loads. Any other row has a Make default button that moves it to the top.

This is the single highest-leverage setting on the card. Putting monthly at the top rather than one time measurably shifts how people give, so choose deliberately rather than leaving it at whatever order you built.

Rename them

Each row has a text box for renaming that frequency in the donor's words. Leave it blank and the donor sees the standard wording, such as "Monthly recurring donation". Fill it in and you can say "Give monthly" or "Join our monthly circle" instead.

One-time only, or recurring only

There is no toggle for this. It follows from the list:

• Leave only One time donation and the form is one-time only.
• Remove One time donation and the form is recurring only, which suits a pledge or sponsorship page.

Ending a recurring gift on a date

By default a recurring gift runs until the donor cancels, which is what most organisations want.

If you need gifts to stop on a date, open Advanced under Giving Frequencies and turn on Custom Stop Date. Three modes are offered:

• Donor picks. A date field appears and the donor chooses. Be aware they can pick a date before the second charge, which turns the gift into a one-off.
• Default to a future offset. You set a number of days, months or years. The picker starts there and the donor can adjust.
• Locked to a specific date. Every recurring gift through this form ends on the date you set, and donors cannot change it. This suits a pledge drive with a fixed end.

There is also a Custom Start Date, with the same three modes, for taking the card today and making the first charge later.

These two only appear once the form uses Stripe's modern card checkout, which is the 3D Secure (SCA) toggle under Payment then Advanced. If you cannot find Custom Stop Date, that is why. Turning SCA off again clears both date settings.

A caution on the locked option: once the fixed date has passed, the form keeps working but recurring selections process as one-time gifts instead. Retire the form or move the date before that happens.

Things Donately does not offer

You cannot end a plan after a set number of gifts. There is no "stop after 12 payments" option. Use a stop date to approximate it.

Donors cannot choose a day of the month. The charge day follows from the start date. You can move it afterwards on an individual plan with Change Billing Day. See Recurring plan statuses.
