Track donations in Google Analytics

Add your GA4 measurement ID to Donately, switch tracking on per form, and verify it is working.

Integrations2026 dashboard

Adding your Google Analytics ID lets you see donation-form pageviews and conversions alongside the rest of your site traffic, so you can tell which channels actually bring in gifts.

Two steps, and people usually miss the second

Step 1: add the ID to your account.

  1. In Google Analytics, open the GA4 property you want to use and find its Measurement ID, which looks like G-XXXXXXXXXX.
  2. In Donately, go to Integrations and open Google Analytics.
  3. Paste it into Google Analytics ID and select Save.

The field also accepts a legacy Universal Analytics id starting UA-, though Google stopped processing those, so a GA4 id is what you want.

Step 2: switch it on for each form.

Saving the ID does not by itself start tracking a form. Open the form, go to the Integrations section in the builder, and turn on Google Analytics. The hint reads "Send this form's donation events to your Google Analytics".

If you have not saved an ID yet, that toggle is locked off and reads Not set up on your account yet.

Repeat for each form you want tracked. The ID is account-wide; the toggle is per form.

Verify it

Make a test donation, then open the Realtime report in GA4. If your test shows up, it is working. See Create a test donation.

Donately has no built-in test button or connection indicator for analytics, so the Realtime report is your check.

If nothing appears, work through these in order: confirm the measurement ID is right, confirm the per-form toggle is on for the form you tested, and try with ad blockers disabled, since they routinely block analytics requests.

Google Tag Manager instead

If you already run Google Tag Manager, use that rather than wiring tags up one at a time. Go to Integrations, open Google Tag Manager, and paste your container id (GTM-XXXXXXX).

GTM is account-wide with no per-form toggle, and it applies to your campaign pages as well as your forms, which makes it the better choice if you want one place to manage tracking.

Google Optimize

Google Optimize was retired by Google in 2023 and cannot be connected. If you came here looking for A/B testing, run it through Google Tag Manager with whichever experimentation tool you have moved to.

Other analytics

Donately also supports the Meta (Facebook) Pixel. Anything else can usually be added through Google Tag Manager.

A caution on expectations: Donately sends pageview and conversion events from the form, but the exact event names are not documented in the dashboard. If you are building precise GA4 goals, inspect what actually arrives in your Realtime report and build against that rather than assuming a naming convention.
