Create or join a team fundraiser
How supporters start a fundraising team or join one on a peer-to-peer campaign, and how an admin sets teams up from the dashboard.
A fundraising team lets several supporters pool their efforts behind one shared goal. Each person still has their own page and their own target, and the team page adds everything up.
Teams are only available on campaigns set up as Peer-to-Peer with Teams. On a plain peer-to-peer campaign, supporters go straight to an individual page and never see the team choice. See Choose a campaign type.
For supporters: start a team
- On the campaign page, select Start A Fundraiser.
- On Start a Fundraiser, under Fundraiser Type, choose Create a Team.
- Fill in the form. Under Personal Information give your first name, last name and email. Under Team Information give a Team Title, a Team Description, a Team Fundraising Goal, and optionally a Team Photo.
- Select Create Fundraiser.
You are then taken to a second, shorter form headed Join Your Team, which asks you to be the first person to join and to set your own target. It asks for a Personal Fundraiser Title, a Personal Description, a Personal Fundraising Goal and optionally Your Photo.
Both steps matter. A team is not finished until you complete the second form, because the team needs at least one person raising money on it. Finish both in one sitting.
When you are done you land on your own fundraising page. Use Share there to get the link and the social buttons, and share the team page separately if you want people to join rather than give.
For supporters: join an existing team
- On the campaign page, select Start A Fundraiser.
- Under Fundraiser Type, choose Join a Team.
- Pick your team from the Fundraising Team dropdown, which lists every team already running on that campaign.
- Fill in your details and your own Fundraiser Title, Fundraiser Description and Fundraising Goal, then select Create Fundraiser.
If someone sent you a direct link to their team, or you used the Join button on a team's page, the team is already chosen for you and shown instead of the dropdown.
The third option on that screen, Create an Individual Fundraiser, is for fundraising on your own. Whether any of these options appear depends on how the organisation set the campaign up.
For admins: create a team from the dashboard
You can set a team up yourself rather than waiting for a supporter to do it, which is useful for seeding a campaign before launch.
- Go to Fundraisers and select New Fundraiser, or use New Fundraiser on a peer-to-peer campaign's page.
- Under Campaign, pick the campaign. Only peer-to-peer campaigns can host fundraisers.
- Under Who is fundraising, keep yourself as the owner or search your contacts for someone else.
- Under Team, choose Start a new team or Join an existing team.
- Starting a new team gives you two panels, because two pages get created: The team, with a Team name, About the team, a Team goal and a Team photo; and the owner's own page, marked Team leader, with a Page title, Their story, Their goal and Their photo.
- Select Create team & page.
Both pages are created together, so a team always has a leader.
For admins: managing teams afterwards
The Fundraisers list has a Team column showing whether each person is a team leader, a team member and which team they are on, or an individual. Filter by type Team or Individual, and there are saved views for Teams and Individuals. When you filter to teams, a second filter appears for narrowing to one team's members.
Open a team's own fundraiser to see a Team members section listing everyone on it with their totals, goals and status.
A campaign's page shows a Peer-to-peer Fundraisers leaderboard where teams are grouped, with the team's rolled-up total and its members indented underneath.
Two limits worth knowing:
You cannot move someone between teams after the fact. A fundraiser's team is set when it is created and there is no reassign, remove-from-team or promote-to-leader control. Ask the supporter to create a new page on the right team, and archive the old one.
Editing a team uses generic labels. Open the team's fundraiser and its name, goal and story are edited through the normal fundraiser fields rather than team-specific ones.
If you import fundraisers from a CSV, a team member row needs the team's fun_ id in the Parent ID column, so create the team first.
